Ruhi Ayangil begins conducting the Boğaziçi University Turkish Music Chorus; his decision to organize choir members by voice type, rather than by height, is a first in the history of Turkish music.

The chorus tours the Netherlands.

Ayangil begins teaching kanun at the Istanbul Turkish Music State Conservatory, today İTÜ-TMDK, where he will teach until 1986; the chorus tours the USSR, returning in 1979.

The chorus tours Poland.

Ayangil teaches a comparative Turkish music theory course at Boğaziçi University for four semesters.

Ayangil gives the first performance of Ferid Alnar's Concerto for Kanun by a soloist other than the composer, accompanied by the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra.

Ruhi Ayangil founds the Ayangil Turkish Music Orchestra and Chorus (ATMOC), at the request of Aydın Gün, then artistic director of the Istanbul Art Festival.

ATMOC makes its first studio recording, "Uyan Ey Gözlerim," for which Ayangil receives the Türkiye Yazarlar Birliği Artist of the Year Award.

Ruhi Ayangil receives the Hürriyet – JAYCEES Cultural Achievement Award, first place in Turkey, for his research into the historical roots and development of Turkish music.

Ayangil begins his academic career as founding faculty at Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) Faculty of Art and Design.

The approximately 40-voice Acappella Grup 34 is founded in June under Ruhi Ayangil's direction.

Acappella Grup 34 gives its first concert, "Yunus Emre Konseri," at Istanbul's Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall on 5 May and its second concert on 13 June; from 23 to 26 June it appears at the Alta Pusteria International Choir Festival in Italy.

Ayangil becomes founding director of the YTÜ Vedat Kosal Music Research Center, and receives first and fourth prizes in the Ministry of Culture's Competition for Composition in Rarely Used Makams.

Ruhi Ayangil receives the Award for Service to Culture and the Arts from the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey.

Ruhi Ayangil founds the Ayangil Atölyesi – İfâde Dînî Mûsikî Meşk Topluluğu, an ensemble devoted to the study and performance of devotional music.

Ayangil retires from YTÜ in March, concluding an academic career that began in 1997 and closed with his deanship of the Faculty of Art and Design.

On 19 June, Ayangil performs "Yüz Yüze / Face to Face" with Ara Dinkjian, opening the International Istanbul Festival at the Galata Mevlevihanesi.

On 31 May, the Ayangil Atölyesi – İfâde ensemble performs the "İfâde-i Merâm Concerts II" programme at Mardin Artuklu University, where Ruhi Ayangil also gives a lecture on seventeenth-century Turkish music and Itrî.

On 7 June, the Ayangil Ensemble appears in the opening concert of the "Tage Alter Musik" festival in Bamberg, Germany.

Ruhi Ayangil is invited to the International Baku Mugham Congress, where he represents Turkey.

ATMOC remains active under the chairwomanship of Hülya Ayangil, while Ruhi Ayangil continues his current academic and artistic positions.
